On March 3, 2010 a dear friend Marco Anthony Lohay departed this earth and took the voyage to the after-world. We come together on the anniversary of his birth to celebrate his life and his special energy that touched so many lives. Marco had deep compassion for music and live concerts, especially The Grateful Dead/Jerry Garcia and the Funk and Soul sound of New Orleans. Marco always strived to have a great time everyday of his life no matter where he was. • Hoodathunk Presents: Greensky Bluegrass
  • Blue Cafe: 17208 Pacific Coast Hwy, Huntington Beach, CA, United States (MAP)

  • Greensky Bluegrass Formed in the fall of 2000 by Michael Arlen Bont (banjo), Dave Bruzza (guitar), and Paul Hoffman (mandolin), Greensky has undergone a musical evolution as unique as the music it has produced. As newcomers to the bluegrass scene, the three sought to define themselves within the framework of their bluegrass favorites while establishing a voice of their own, drawing upon an array of influences and varied musical backgrounds. This voice first became evident in their May 2004 release of Less than Supper, recorded with bassist Chris Carr and dobro player Al Bates. In the fall of the same year, Greensky Bluegrass welcomed bassist Michael Devol, and in the summer of 2006 released their second studio album, Tuesday Letter. This album, produced by Tim Carbone of Railroad Earth, has proven a milestone in the quartet's growth as musicians and increasing exposure to a thriving national community. On December 31st of 2007 Greensky Bluegrass added Anders Beck (dobro) to the line up to. His playing is adding great depth to their existing material, and opening many doors to new songs. The new quintet will be recording a studio album in the late spring of 2008.

Live performance is central to Greensky Bluegrass' presence in today's eclectic acoustic scene. Touring extensively since 2005, Greensky has developed great versatility in the performance arena, earning audiences nationwide, from all walks of life. The mixing of original compositions with traditional bluegrass numbers gives the band a broad spectrum in which to display their driving technical chops, vocal abilities, and lyrical insight. A spirit of improvisation remains evident in live shows, which contributes to an ever-growing population of returning fans and avid show traders. On-stage collaborations have paired the boys with Railroad Earth, Larry Keel and Natural Bridge, and Steppin' in It. The band has also shared bills with influential acts including Ralph Stanley, Peter Rowan and Tony Rice Quartet, Yonder Mountain String Band, Sam Bush Band, John Mayer, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Keller Williams, Hot Buttered Rum, Vince Herman, The Mammals, The Hackensaw Boys, The Avett Brothers, Darrell Scott, King Wilkie, David Grisman Quintet and more.

  • Winston's: 1921 Bacon St., San Diego, CA, United States (MAP)

  • Great American Taxi Great American Taxi is ready to charge into 2009 with a new album on the horizon and some new members in the cab. In December of 2008 founding members Vince Herman (Leftover Salmon) and Chad Staehly brought their new line-up and a few special guests into Backbone Studio in Loveland, CO to record the next evolution to their “Americana without borders” brand of music. Filled with electric folk, alt-country, a dash of bluegrass and good ol’ rock and roll, Taxi has found their stride and sound. The latest version of Taxi includes Jim Lewin on electric guitar and vocals, Edwin Hurwitz on bass guitar and Chris Sheldon on drums and vocals. Barry Sless is also considered a member at large adding pedal steel and guitar when he can get away from his other gigs and jump into the Taxi.

  • Blue Turtle Seduction
  • Winston's: 1921 Bacon St., San Diego, CA (MAP)

  • When Blue Turtle Seduction played their first show in 2001 it Was... well... rough around the edges, sloppy, chaotic, and ... one hell of a great time. From the beginning there was a raw and original sound, a clear and intense vibe, and the energy was through the roof. It was the rebellious outdoor spirit of South Lake Tahoe, CA (work hard, play harder) wrapped into electric guitar and mandolin; harmonica, harmonies, and adrenaline; drums, bass, and violin.

Fast forward to 2007 and find a band that dedicated itself to practice and playing as many shows as possible to polish that rough sound into something that has been winning fans over night after night from small town to big city, from Hawaii to New York City, and from dive bar to famous theatres all while marching to beat of their own drummer.

And while the big question spreads from mouth to mouth, "What kind of music is it?!" The band and fans alike scratch their head and offer, "Well its jam-newgrass?, how about gypsy rock?, no its Duran Duran meets String Cheese Incident, meets the Clash ... no its not, its Blind Melon meets the Samples... forget it, just come to the show!

  • The Blue Cafe: 17208 Pacific Coast Hwy, Huntington Beach, CA (MAP)

  • Montana Slim String Band is an emerging newgrass string band from San Francisco. Combining diverse musical backgrounds and influences, they have succeeded in creating a sound all their own. Built upon envigorating live performances, peppered with dueling melodic fiddle, mandolin and acoustic guitar improvisation, Montana Slim will have the dance floor swaying. Passionate vocal harmonies, reflective lyrical tales, and solid foundational bass rhythms can all be found in Montana Slim's original youthful interpretation of bluegrass.

Nate LaPointe Band, lovingly known to fans as NLB, is comprised of four incredibly forward players from a strong jazz background with rootsy, eclectic songwriting and improvisation as its basis. From introspective ballads like "I'll Put You First" to off-the-wall tunes like "Sagittarius" and bring-down-the-house rockers such as "Here I Come Again," NLB jams through their diverse array of sounds via a profound mastery of their instruments.

When he's not touring with NLB, Nate plays with SoCal's premiere Grateful Dead Tribute band CUBENSIS, as well as soul/R&B legend BOBBY WOMACK and pop/singing duo JASON and deMARCO. Nate has also worked with such greats as Dave Mason, Vince Welnick, Charlie Haden and Bloodstone, and even opened for BB King on his 80th birthday tour. Session work and teaching keep Nate busy while he's in town.

  • Hoodathunk presents: Izabella, Ten Mile Tide, & Dominic Feedam
  • Blue Cafe: 17208 Pacific Coast Hwy, Huntington Beach, CA (MAP)

  • IZABELLA was born out of years of musical connections. Like many bands before, and many yet to come, the search for new music is what ultimately brings these musicians together. The love of the improvisational/jam community is what drives and inspires them to push forward. Sean Lehe (guitar/vocals), Lucas Carlton (drums) and Murph (bass/guitar) spent four years recording and touring with Bay Area jamband, Home At Last. With a desire for a fresh start, the trio decided in the spring of 2006 to branch out with a new face and renewed sense of purpose. After years of networking in the scene, close connections were made with some of the most talented players around. As a result, the trio has grown to a five-piece machine following a musical merger with Sacramento based “Four Guys From Reno”. The Sacramento boys bring the soulful energy of Brian Rogers (vocals/bass/percussion/guitar) and the chunky funk of Sam Phelps (keyboard/vocals). Brian and Sam have been musical brothers since High School and have already created an impressive legacy of solo recordings.

Ten Mile Tide is a San Francisco-based six-piece that plays a smooth blend of feel-good acoustic rock, foot-stomping folk, and beer-drenched bluegrass. Formed in 1999, the group is composed of Jason (lead electric guitar, vocals) and Justin Munning (rhythm acoustic guitar, vocals), Steve Kessler (fiddle), Jeff Clemetson (bass), Matt Mitchel (keys) and John Morales (drums). Artists such as Bob Dylan and Neil Young influence the band's strong focus on songwriting. Influences such as the Allman Brothers, the Grateful Dead, and The Band further define Ten Mile Tide's dynamic live sound. Ten Mile Tide has shared the stage with other national touring acts such as The Wailers, Dispatch, moe., MOFRO, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, Strangefolk, The Clumsy Lovers, Railroad Earth, and The Slip and has played festivals such as CMJ, High Sierra Music Festival, Wakarusa, Three Rivers Festival, and Mulberry Mountain Harvest Music Festival.

  • What happens when two former members of a widely successful touring band step out from behind the instruments that made them famous and embark on an entirely new musical journey? The result is the left coast breakbeat/glitch-hop/house duo, EOTO (pronounced E-oh-toe). Consisting of one third of the progressive jam sextet, The String Cheese Incident, the joint venture between Jason Hann and Michael Travis is a fresh, 100% improvised collaboration of live instrumentation and digital mixing. The duo has eagerly taken to the road to deliver a totally inimitable and unforgettable live experience.
